PILATES AT BEYOND MOVE

We love movement, it’s so vital for our wellbeing. If you’re looking for a beautiful way to improve your mobility, core, strength and concentration – we’d love you to join our growing community. Our Pilates is for everyone.

Our Beyond Move Pilates

Our main teaching is based on the APPI method – modern Physio-based Pilates. Our other teachers are trained at BASI Pilates, STOTT Pilates and Body Control Pilates.

The classes are safe for everyone, but it’s best to check the level and intensity in the timetable first. If you have a specific problem or injury then please get in touch.

Beyond Move’s Specific classes

If you’re going through a short-term change – such as pregnancy (and post-pregnancy) or need rehabilitation support – we’re more than happy to help. Check out our 6-week courses.

Our small class setup

Ensures we can offer individual attention, so you’ll gain the most out of the sessions.

Our primary aim

Is to empower people by re-educating and raising awareness of correct posture.

ABOUT PILATES

Pilates is loved around the world, and we love it too. It increases muscle strength, tone, flexibility, posture – but also has a wide range of mental health benefits, including stress management, better memory and improved depression or anxiety. Crucially, Pilates is for anyone, regardless of their shape or size. It’s fun, energising and calming – so come and try a class :-)

BEGINNERS & IMPROVERS PILATES

Pilates transforms the body, coordinating deep postural and stability muscles with our breath and limb movements. With practice and commitment, it also improves flexibility. Our Beginner classes are best if you’re new to pilates, or if you’ve not practiced it for a while (unless of course you’re pre or postnatal). Our highly trained and experienced instructors guide you at your own pace, determining when you’re ready to move up a level.

DYNAMIC PILATES

If you know the basics, breathe steadily while moving and reliably connect to your core – you’re best suited to this Intermediate-Advance Pilates class. As an improver, you’ll understand how key it is to listen to your body. You’ll also notice and correct when another part of your body is 'overworking' the load, like gripping on hip flexors. If you’re not sure which level’s best for you, or if you’re in between levels – just take our Beginner class. We’ll help determine a level that’s safe for you.

PILATES & STRETCH THERAPY

Stretch therapy is a low-impact class. It improves flexibility, posture and encourages you to learn more about your body’s capabilities. This class focuses on deep stretching of all the main muscle groups in your body.

It’s designed to help everyone. Group members might experience stiffness from poor posture, work a desk/driving-based job, notice age-related difficulties, or feel some tightness after an injury.

We begin with simple exercises then work on more complex, compound stretches overtime. Although you’re encouraged to progress at your own pace, our teachers help you find your limits – making sure you get individual attention.

They’ll also help pinpoint where your restrictions are, so you can improve your flexibility in a chain of movement.

POP PILATES

A combination of full-body pilates, energetic music and choreographed dance that’s full of attitude – results in a FUN, intense and effective workout. People leave feeling sweaty, strong and ready to take on more!

BACK PAIN PILATES

A gentle class with lots of modifications. We break down and modify traditional pilates exercises that are safer and more achievable. By building awareness of the core strength and postural connection – you’ll gradually improve strength, flexibility, confidence and enjoy seeing the movements free up.

MEN’S PILATES

Pilates is often thought of as women-only exercise, which couldn’t be further from the truth. It is increasingly being added to exercise routines as a recovery tool for athletes – Andy Murray and Anthony Joshua to name a couple. Also, more weight trainers are turning to Pilates to increase muscle power and flexibility.

If you play football, enjoy running or frequently visit the gym – inadequate warm-ups or stretching can tighten muscles and increase the risk of injuries. Even day-to-day activities like sitting at a desk or lifting/carrying children can lead to muscle stiffness.

At Beyond Move we encourage more men to use pilates – helping you reset your body alignment by working on your back, neck, shoulders, hips and pelvis. We want you to leave each session feeling more in balance, comfortable and better equipped for performing your other physical or day-to-day activities.

Whatever your reason for considering pilates, please don’t feel shy. Get in touch to find out more, or book your place in our Men’s class!

KIDS & TEENS PILATES

We all need to exercise, especially children. Our kids are in a formal school setting from the age of 4 – often sitting lots, which impacts their behaviour and posture. It’s important to remember that physical development happens mainly through play, at least up until age 7. It’s a given that kids love running around, jumping and bouncing.

Our Kid’s Pilates is geared towards physical activity that’s fun. The classes include stories that fire up your kid’s imagination – with different balancing exercises, such as the moon walk.

This approach helps your kids feel like they’re playing rather than just exercising – while improving their core strength, balance and posture. Good core strength helps with PE at school, and also helps their classroom learning. Poor core stability makes sitting and standing for extended periods difficult. Pilates establishes important muscles, memories, and movement principles children will use for their entire lives. It also reduces the chance of injuries now and as they continue to grow.

All exercises are age-appropriate and low impact. Some more strenuous exercise regimes aren’t always beneficial for young children – and can even be harmful.

Let’s all work together to encourage our children to move, jump and have fun. Bring them along to try out the class!
